What you’ll need to get started—and keep things running smoothly.

To ensure your project launches without a hitch and performs consistently over time, there are a few technical requirements and recommendations we ask clients to consider. Whether you're starting a brand-new build or enhancing an existing site, this guide will help clarify what’s needed for a streamlined process.

Hosting Requirements

We can work with most major hosting providers and platforms, but we recommend selecting one that offers the following:

  • Apache 2.4+ or nginx 1.24+
  • PHP 8.x or higher
  • MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10+
  • HTTPS (SSL certificate installed)
  • SSH or SFTP access
  • Ability to set file and folder permissions
  • Server-side caching (where applicable)
(e.g., Varnish, Redis, or integrated host-level caching)

For custom projects, we may recommend managed hosting tailored to WordPress, Laravel, or your preferred stack.

CMS Access

If we’re working with your existing website, we’ll need the following:

  • Administrator-level access to your CMS (WordPress, Drupal, etc.)
  • Access to any custom themes, plugins, or modules
  • Backup capabilities in place, ideally automated and offsite
  • Clear documentation or credentials for third-party integrations (e.g., CRMs, newsletter platforms)

We take site safety seriously and recommend enabling two-factor authentication where available.

Domain & DNS Access

To configure or migrate your site, we may need:

  • Access to your domain registrar account (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.)
  • Ability to update DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT)
  • If you're using a CDN or proxy service (like Cloudflare), access to that dashboard as well

File Formats & Deliverables

When sharing branding assets or content, we prefer the following formats:

  • Logos & Graphics: vector files (AI, SVG), layered PhotoShop files, or high-res PNG (transparent)
  • Photography: JPG or WebP, high resolution, appropriately licensed
  • Copywriting: Google Docs, Markdown, PDFs, or plain-text files
  • Design References: Figma, Adobe XD, PDF, or URLs to inspiration sites

We’ll provide any deliverables you need in well-organized, industry-standard formats suitable for developers, marketers, or print.

Collaboration & Communication Tools

To keep projects running efficiently, we use the following tools:

  • Project Management: ClickUp, Trello, or Basecamp (project-dependent)
  • File Sharing: Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, or OneDrive
  • Meetings: Discord, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom

We’re flexible and can adapt to your preferred workflow—just let us know what you’re already using.

Optional, But Recommended

To future-proof your digital presence:

  • Enable version control (Git) for custom development (we recommend GitHub)
  • Use staging environments before going live
  • Regularly review analytics and performance metrics
  • Schedule periodic security and SEO audits
